Library Sessions

Tuesday after school

The library is open every Tuesday from 3.30pm to 4pm for children to borrow a book for 14 days after which it needs to be returned to the library and changed or renewed. Each book has a unique library barcode. Every child has their own code as well so books are scanned in and out of the library. Please do not return library books to the classroom.

If you have any queries regarding the library please see Mrs Noad or Mrs Sheppard.

PE Sessions

Tuesday afternoons from 1.15pm to 3.15pm

(changed from Term 4)

Please ensure your child has their full named PE kit in school. PE bags are sent home every holiday giving parents an opportunity to wash items and check that their kit still fits. PE clothing that is too small restricts the children and is uncomfortable.
PE kits should be in school every day as on occasions PE sessions may be rearranged.

Homework

Children need to be practising their reading and maths skills 5 times a week, with an adult MINIMUM. See reading below.

Reading can consist of activities such as Page 99, Tricky Work Window, Dictionary work or answer questions about a section of the text.

Times tables are a focus for home learning. The expectation is that by the end of the year they will know 2,5,10,3,4 and 8 times table, up to 12x. A little and often approach can be taken – some suggestions include:

  • Chanting times tables- Whether it’s marching up and down the stairs or over breakfast. The basic skill of going up and down in their times tables in very important.
  • Quick fire questioning – Fire times table questions and get your child to answers back quickly. This is one step further than just chanting in order.
  • Learning times tables with a broom! – This technique breaks the times tables down into smaller chunks and teaches them the relationship between them. E.g. 10x something is double 5x something. The clip below shows how it is done.

  • Maths Apps – ‘Doodle Maths’ has been recommended to us by previous parents.
  • Work books – Some parents like children to work through a work book. Any high street shop/supermarket make their own and any are good!
  • Rock Star Maths – This is going to have a massive boost from school over the coming year and is a great way for children to practise their quick fire times table knowledge.
