PE SessionsFriday

Term 1 the children will come to school in their PE kit.

Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school everyday from Term 2.

PE bags are sent home every holiday giving parents an opportunity to wash and check that their child’s kit still fits them. Please ensure daps/trainers are provided for the summer terms 5 & 6.

Reading BooksEvery Day

Reading books and records need to be in school every day. Reading books will be changed once a week (every Friday). Children will not receive a new book until the previous one is returned.

All children start on Lilac band books in September and gradually work through Pink, Red and Yellow bands, as they learn new sounds. Inserts to explain how these bands work will be in your child’s reading record.
Tricky words will be sent home for practice once learnt.

Home LearningOn Going

Children need to practice their reading and maths skills as near to every day as possible (3 x a week minimum). Little but often is key!

Reading can be their reading book from school or books that you have at home. It can be retelling stories that are familiar to them and practicing their story language. Please record this in their yellow reading record every time – the children will get “dojo points” for this!

Children’s maths skills can be developed in many ways and counting objects on the way home or playing board games can be an excellent starting point. ‘Subitising’ practice whilst shopping, “How may apples do you see? How do you see it? I see 3 as 2 and 1 more, or 3 lots of 1”.

You can use ‘Boost’ to help with your child’s reading, using their ‘Rocket Phonics’ login – which will eventually be put in their yellow reading record to enable you to access digital online books.

You may also use the weekly phonics videos uploaded onto ‘Evidence Me’ to promote phonics practice.

Out of school achievements FridayCertificates, medals and awards can be sent to school every Thursday for Mrs Robinson to present in our celebration assembly.

Wheely WednesdayWednesday

Once the children have settled in, each Wednesday afternoon, the children will have the opportunity to explore and have a go on trikes, bikes and scooters in the playground (if weather permits).

To help keep everyone safe, please ensure your child brings in their helmet every Wednesday. Unfortunately we only have a limited number of helmets available at school, so it is important that each child has their own (if they wish to take part). Helmets will be sent home at the end of the day.

Evidence MeWeekly

Upload any home learning or exciting things your child may want to share with the class onto Evidence Me.

At school we will share exciting things happening in your child’s learning or any reminders specific to Holly Class.
