Homework Spellings |
Friday | Spellings are sent home each week and are tested the following week as follows: Year 1 – Sent home Friday and tested the following Friday. |
Homework Reading | 5 x Week | Children need to be practicing their reading 5 times a week at home, with an adult MINIMUM. This is in addition to any reading they do in school. Reading can consist of activities such as Page 99, Tricky Work Window, Dictionary work or answer questions about a section of the text. One or two pages a day is better than 10 pages once a week. Homework logs should be in school every day. Year 1 – Books are handed in on a Friday and two new books are given out on a Monday. Year 2 – Books are handed in on a Friday and two new books are given out on a Monday. Children can practice answering VIPERs questions. |
Homework Maths | 5 x Week
| Children need to be practicing their maths skills 5 times a week at home, with an adult MINIMUM. This is in addition to maths at school. Times tables are a focus for home learning. The expectations are that by the end of the school year children should know their times tables as follows: Year 1 – Number Facts Year 2 will also be sent homework each Friday that needs to be completed and returned to school by the following Friday. It will be either Maths or English based. A little and often approach can be taken – some suggestions include: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXdHGBfoqfw Times table songs – Below is a list of song which can be found on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWJ-aCxQ_gw Alternatively just search the times table on YouTube and there are hundreds! Online Games – Just by searching “times table games” you will find hundreds of sites which can help develop you child’s number fact knowledge. Maths Apps – ‘Doodle Maths’ has been recommended to us by previous parents. |
Library Sessions | Children will change their library books in school on a Friday afternoon. | The library is open for children to borrow a book for 14 days after which it needs to be returned to the library and changed or renewed. Each book has a unique library bar code. Every child has their own code as well so books are scanned in and out of the library. Please do not return library books to the classroom. If you have any queries regarding the library please see Mrs Noad or Mrs Sheppard. |
PE Sessions | Year 1 Tues pm Year 2 Thurs pm | Please ensure your child has their full named PE kit in school. PE bags are sent home every holiday giving parents an opportunity to wash items and check that their kit still fits. PE clothing that is too small restricts the children and is uncomfortable. PE kits should be in school every day as on occasions PE sessions may be rearranged. |

Phonics Screening – June 2022 Year 2 Term 3 – Week commencing 10th January 2022 Term 5 – These take place throughout May 2022. Further information regarding KS1 SATs will be issued prior to them taking place. Please ensure your child has a good nights sleep every night and a good breakfast. This will help with their concentration and ensure they do the best they can. |
