Year 2 – Books are handed in on a Friday and two new books are given out on the Friday.

Maths

5 x Week

Children need to be practicing their maths skills 4 times a week at home, with an adult MINIMUM. This is in addition to maths at school.

Year 1 – Numbots.

Year 2 – Double sided sheet given TT Rockstars or Numbots.

Times tables are a focus for home learning. The expectations are that by the end of the school year children should know their times tables as follows:

Year 1 – Number Facts
Year 2 – 2, 5, 10

A little and often approach can be taken – some suggestions include:
Chanting times tables- Whether it’s marching up and down the stairs or over breakfast. The basic skill of going up and down in their times tables in very important.
Quick fire questioning – Fire times table questions and get your child to answers back quickly. This is one step further than just chanting in order.
Learning times tables with a broom! – This technique breaks the times tables down into smaller chunks and teaches them the relationship between them. E.g. 10x something is double 5x something. The clip below shows how it is done.
